A propósito do Iron Salvador do Monte

Sei que o galego mais português que conheço irá espumar de ira e dirigir-me, na sua língua mãe, impropérios dos quais não imagino o significado, quando ler esta prosa que talvez desmistifique o epíteto “Salvador do Monte-Capital do Empeno” atribuído ao evento de BTT em apreço.

No meu subconsciente, e, acima de tudo, no meu coração, a designação deste evento teve, tem e só poderá ter esta: “Iron Salvador – Berço dos afetos” em homenagem a dois seres humanos ímpares, filhos desta terra, que esta modalidade me deu a oportunidade de conhecer, de admirar e de amar.

Falo-vos do Pedro Gomes e do João Marinho, obviamente!

O Pedro de que vos falo, apesar da sua curta passagem terrena, granjeou a amizade, a admiração e o respeito daqueles que tiveram o privilégio de com ele conviver, pela sua simplicidade, humildade e jovialidade, pela completa abertura de alma ao próximo, independentemente da sua condição social ou intelectual, pela sua retidão e nobreza de carácter.

Foi crescendo na idade e na sabedoria, orientando sempre a sua existência com base em valores que o permitissem enriquecer humana e espiritualmente, demonstrando sempre uma disponibilidade invulgar para ajudar os outros, para praticar o bem.

Se como ser humano foi tudo e muito mais do que vos descrevo, como atleta é um exemplo a seguir. Entendendo o desporto como um complemento para o espírito, seguidor do lema “alma sã em corpo são” e possuidor de capacidades físicas invejáveis, praticou várias modalidades desportivas amadoras, mas foi no ciclismo de BTT que mais se evidenciou, sendo o principal impulsionador desta modalidade no concelho de Amarante .

No João, que muitos de vós conheceste e foi o mais fiel discípulo do Pedro, facilmente se lhe reconhece muitas ou a totalidade das qualidades humanas e desportivas do seu Mestre!

Ambos partiram demasiado cedo. Ambos eram defensores intransigentes da Natureza. Ambos semearam os valores de Amizade, Companheirismo Solidariedade e Amor Fraternal.

Com ambos tive o privilégio de partilhar trilhos mil e histórias inarráveis. A ambos abracei como quem abraça um filho.

Por tudo isto, caríssimo participante no “Iron Salvador–Berço dos afetos”, se inesperadamente receberes um abraço, não estranhes. É o Pedro e o João que te abraçam em sinal de gratidão pela tua presença e sou também eu com Saudade de abraçar os dois!

Regarding Iron Salvador do Monte

I know the most Portuguese Galician I know will foam with rage and direct at me, in his mother tongue, insults whose meaning I cannot imagine when he reads this prose that might demystify the ‘Salvador do Monte-Capital of Hardship’ moniker attributed to the MTB event in question.

In my subconscious, and above all, in my heart, the name of this event had, has, and can only have this: ‘Iron Salvador – Cradle of Affection,’ in honor of two unique human beings, sons of this land, whom this sport gave me the opportunity to know, admire, and love.

I am speaking of Pedro Gomes and João Marinho, obviously!

The Pedro I speak of, despite his short earthly passage, earned the friendship, admiration, and respect of those who had the privilege of living with him, through his simplicity, humility, and joviality, through his complete openness of soul to others, regardless of their social or intellectual condition, through his uprightness and nobility of character.

He grew in age and wisdom, always guiding his existence based on values that allowed him to enrich himself humanly and spiritually, always demonstrating an unusual availability to help others, to practice good.

If as a human being he was all and much more than what I describe to you, as an athlete he is an example to follow. Understanding sport as a complement to the spirit, a follower of the motto ‘healthy soul in a healthy body’ and possessing enviable physical capacities, he practiced several amateur sports, but it was in MTB cycling that he stood out most, being the main promoter of this sport in the municipality of Amarante.

In João, whom many of you knew and who was Pedro’s most faithful disciple, one easily recognizes many or all of the human and sporting qualities of his Master!

Both left us far too early. Both were uncompromising defenders of Nature. Both sowed the values of Friendship, Companionship, Solidarity, and Brotherly Love.

With both, I had the privilege of sharing a thousand trails and unspeakable stories. I embraced both as one embraces a son.

For all this, dear participant in ‘Iron Salvador – Cradle of Affection,’ if you unexpectedly receive a hug, do not find it strange. It is Pedro and João hugging you in gratitude for your presence, and it is also me with the ‘Saudade’ of hugging them both!
